How Joining the Military Service May Help When It Comes to College

Service men and women have long been respected and honored by the whole country and respected by the whole world. So why not see if you have what it takes to be apart of a tradition so great as the Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force? When thinking about college, for most, the high cost comes to mind. However, becoming apart of the armed service opens many doors into attending and affording college.

By joining the army, for example, you receive a full scholarship including books. For anyone who understands the sacrifices many people and families make each year to afford college, then you will appreciate how amazing an opportunity it is to get college handed to you with no strings attached. All the army expects in return is, depending on if you choose ROTC, Active, Reserve, or Guard, is an average of 4 years active duty.

Also, by joining the service, you are able to get up to $500 spending money each month while in college. Just think about it: for doing something that many people choose to do, you receive spending money and a college education for virtually no money. No pestering parents for tuition or nagging college loans which can stay with you for years after getting your education. There are so many benefits, it is hard to see why

In any type of service, weather it be the Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force, you also get something beyond education

” To be right is not always popular…to be popular is not always right. “

“To Be Right is  Not Always Popular…

To Be Popular is Not Always Right.”

This statement is very true, especially when it comes to what we have learned this week concerning online bullying. Even your friends can pressure and persuade you to do something hurtful or disrespectful to someone else. In doing this, you think you might obtain popularity, however what you don’t realize at the time is once you have given in, it will happen many more times. Also, outside your circle of friends, you will be disliked because, chances are, others will know that you are doing or saying rude and hurtful things to others. In doing the right thing, you may loose the approval of friends, but what you have to ask yourself is: were they really acting like friends to begin with?

10 Things That Make Me Laugh

10 Things That Make Me Laugh

  1. My friends, Megan and Amanda, make me laugh all the time. Especially our voices and imitations because they are absolutely hilarious. I don’t know where I would be without them.
  2. Wheelchairs because that is what my friends use to get me from place to place so I don’t have to use my crutches.
  3. Girls who try really hard on their facebook pages to get attention. I find this funny because instead of just being themselves, they’re trying to act different to impress others.
  4. When other people laugh, I feel like I have to laugh. I really don’t know how to explain this but when I hear laughter it makes me laugh.
  5. Lady Gaga is unique and crazy. Therefore, she always makes me laugh. I love her outrageous clothing and hairstyles. I’m also portraying her for Halloween and my costume is pretty funny so that is another reason why every time I see her, I always end up laughing.
  6. My sister, Brielle, makes me laugh all the time. When I see her, she’s always saying something clever and funny.
  7. My dad makes me laugh sometimes. When he’s in a good mood he’ll annoy me until I laugh by imitating me which I think is kind of funny.
  8. When my cat, Sargent Tibbs, attacks my dog, Pepper, it’s always funny. He’ll hide behind chairs and doors and when my dog walks through, he’ll jump all over her and then run away faster than I’ve ever seen an animal run.
  9. Surprisingly, knock-knock jokes are funny to me. Usually, they are found childish but I think they are so simple that I have to laugh.
  10. Memories from when my sister and I were younger practically bring me to tears because I laugh so hard. Just recently, she called me from college to tell me she just remembered the Barbie band we used to have and the song “they” sang. The song was about fossil fuels because that’s what my sister was learning about in school and it was so funny, that I laughed for the rest of the night.

Posture

I googled good posture and I found a site which explains bad posture and how to fix it. www.spine-health.com. Some facts they stated in this informative website were very similar to the things Mrs. Fagan taught us in class.

1. Bad posture can easily result in, most commonly, back and neck pain.

2. A good office chair is a great investment for someone who has a job which they sit all day.

3. By demonstrating bad posture, you do not use the right muscles and put stress on your spine, causing pain.

4. By slouching, you run the risk of constricted blood vessels and nerves, as well as problems with muscles, discs and joints in the spine. Also, headaches and fatigue are thought to be a result of incorrect posture.

5. A good way to help your posture is to try and align your ears, shoulders, and hips.

Correct Posture

  1. Can you do these stretches sitting down or standing up? You can do these stretches both sitting and standing.
  2. What posture should you always begin at? You begin in a neutral position.
  3. Why is breathing helpful? Breathing is helpful because it relaxes you
  4. Choose three of these stretches as your favorite.  Why did you select them? My favorite stretches were the windmills, hand fans, and neck stretch. I liked these because, to me, they helped tension in my shoulders, hands, wrists, and neck.

Why I attend Saint Mary High School

Since I was born, I knew I was going to St. Mary. Some would have a problem with that, but I grew up loving this school and every aspect of it, therefore thinking I would be going there excited me. Watching my older sister, Brielle, go through this school also contributed to me aspiring to come here.

I love the fact St. Mary is a small school. You know everyone and that makes the experience of going to this school enjoyable. The small classes also help me focus and, in turn, learn more. In some schools, I hear every class has over 20 kids. I could never learn like that. St. Mary does not lie when it says it is a “Small, Personal, Catholic, Choice.”

Current Event

Annie Le, a Yale student, was recently found strangeled in the basement wall of a Yale medical research building. Tragically, the ambitious young woman’s body was found on what would have been her wedding day. Raymond Clark III, a Yale University animal research technician, was arrested Thursday and charged for the murder. Clark worked in the same laboratory where Le’s body was found.

Favorite Childhood Memory (Sept.15)

My favorite childhood memory was attempting to make a “treehouse” with my dad and sister when I was around 6 or 7. I always thought the perfect  family had a treehouse in their backyard so one day I asked my dad if he could build me one in the tree outside. He told me Sunday Football was on and there was no way but he probably felt guilty so he came outside with some wood from our neighbor’s yard and a can of nails. My dad isn’t very handy though so it ended up being 3 pieces of wood on a branch we couldn’t even get to. It also had about 150,000,000 nails in it. But, it still is in my yard and when I see it I always laugh because even though it didn’t turn out how I had pictured it would, I had a fun time helping create it and it made for a great memory.
